EQUALEASY is a new series of training courses focused on Equalisation Awareness designed by Andrea Zuccari for DAN Europe . Equalisation concerns not only divers and freedivers, but also adults and children who face for the first time a flight by plane, and even hyperbaric operators who daily face problems of this type. We believe the time has come to bring the culture of conscious equalisation to the aquatic world, and beyond, with a specific course, created in collaboration with Andrea Zuccari , a well-known freediving recordman and expert in equalisation techniques. The EQUALEASY course will allow you to learn how to equalize in an effective and conscious way. Equalization Academy and Andrea Zuccari are providing these courses online, but you can also contact DAN Europe to check if in your city or contry there are other DAN EqualEasy Instructors. https://www.daneurope.org/web/guest/equ

Andrea Zuccari Equalization Academy was founded in 2018 by Andrea Zuccari. “There are Scuba didactics and freediving didactics however none teach the topic of Equalization properly” and thus Andrea decided to create the first didactic to teach Equalization to free divers and scuba divers, eventually realising that these techniques could help people who need medical treatment in hyperbaric chambers as well as those who struggle to equalise during plane travel. Thus was born the Equalization Academy. Andrea Zuccari discovers the sport of Freediving in 2006 and after a few sessions he realises that he has a natural predisposition to this new sport. He begins to train with Apnea Academy and between 2006 - 2008 he establishes 5 Swiss National Records. In 2008 he becomes and Apnea Academy Instructor and sets a further 5 Swiss National Records between 2009 - 2012 with the deepest being a No-Limits 131m record. In 2011 he sets his first World Record in Tandem No-Limits MIX with Anna von Boetticher (his student, both with mask) surpassing the depths of Patrick Musimu the man who had introduced him to the mouthfill technique. Spring 2012 he releases an educational DVD with an innovative approach via a series of dry exercises to develop the awareness of the organs involved in equalisation (This DVD has been translated into five languages). Fall 2012 he opens his Training Centre “Freediving World Apnea Centre” in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt where he continues to develop his approach to equalisation while working with many of the top athletes in the sport of Freediving. January 2013 he sets his first Italian Record - 155 mt No Limits surpassing his "maestro" Umberto Pelizzari. In the same days he sets his first World Record in Tandem No-Limits Male with the Greek Stavros Kastrinakis. A few months later he sets the new Italian Record in Variable Weight Regulated down to - 135 mt. July 2014 he sets the world record for the deepest No-Limits Sled dive with a mask , diving to an incredible 175m and placing himself as the 2nd deepest man of all time just behind the Austrian Herbert Nitsch. July 2016 Andrea performs a training dive in CWT down to 107 mt. with a mask equalizing handsfree. August 2017 Andrea will perform another No Limits sled dive and this time to 185m placing him squarely as the deepest man on earth without using external devices to equalise. Andrea, based in Sharm El Sheikh, continues his career as both athlete and coach, involved in many research projects, working with elite world record breaking athletes and traveling the world to teach equalisation and his approach to deep diving. He is largely considered one of the key innovators in equalisation education having worked with more top athletes than any other coach in the sport. Andrea Zuccari and Equalization Academy collaborate with DAN Europe on the Project EqualEasy . Do you know how many freedivers riched the depth of -185mt. equalizing without external devices? The Answer is: one, Andrea Zuccari .

About Us Andrea Zuccari's partner first, and then wife, I saw the birth and then growth of Andrea's passion for what was the physiology of the human body, from the perspective of the freediver in general, focusing especially on equalisation. Andrea had a particular flair for apnea and equalisation. This led him to equalise without questioning how this mechanism worked. I, on the other hand, although I had been a diving instructor for years had huge problems with equalisation. When I asked him "but how do you equalise?" the answer was " Ali, I don't know, it's like you have to explain to someone how you move a finger, you just move it!" From there, out of love for me and to be able to explain to me how to equalise he began his course of study, which would lead him to be one of the world's greatest ear and equalisation experts, and to start his CHILD, Equalization Academy. For years he took courses, and internships all over the world, getting great results from novices and experienced freedivers alike. Every year his knowledge grew thanks to continuous studies and discussions with doctors, with experts, thanks to tests done in hyperbaric chambers and in doctors' offices with otolaryngologists, and thanks to hi s curiosity and passion for this subject that led him to continuous discoveries. He invented new exercises also with the help of elements such as speech therapy and instruments such as the otovent, and created new methods to explain in the simplest and most intuitive way possible this difficult subject that is "equalisation" It would be impossible now to leave in the shadows all this knowledge and expertise that he himself created. And that's why I have decided to carry on his school, Equalization Academy. ALBERTO PORCU I am a Fipsas 2nd degree indoor and outdoor freediving instructor Fipsas indoor and outdoor freediving coach Instructor of basic swimming activities I am on the Fipsas exam committee for 1st and 2nd degree instructor courses where I take care of all their training and skills regarding compensation Dan Equaleasy instructor for all 3 modules basic/scuba/freediver I have organized and participated in 11 EA workshops by Andrea of all levels In 2021 I created Deeply Asinara ( 4 dates each summer ) full immersion workshop dedicated entirely to compensation with theory and practice in the water . Since 2022 one of the 4 dates was personally curated by Andrea . With Dan I organized and taught several Equaleasy freediver courses where I certified 135 students Outside the Equaleasy program I did workshops mainly in Sardinia where I supervised and certified about 100 students ALESSANDRO VIGO In 2014 I became an Apnea instructor with SSI and after gaining teaching experience for another school, in 2016 I found my own freediving centre - Deep Waters Milano ASD. 3 years later I achieved the SSI Freediving Instructor Trainer certification, thus starting to teach professional instructor courses as well. In 2017 I started my collaboration with Andrea Zuccari, completing the Equaleasy by DAN instructor course. From that moment a really fruitful professional relationship was born where I was able to learn both from the student and instructor point of view. I participated as an assistant in several of Andrea's Workshops consolidating my skills on the subject of equalisation starting from the initial modules up to the complete course concerning the most advanced equalisation techniques according to the Equalization Academy path, the brand created by Andrea whose purpose is the study and teaching of equalisation Of Andrea, I have always admired the level of detail in his studies and the simplification of exercises, greatly improving the success rate of students in achieving their goals. I am honored to be able to make a contribution so that Andrea's wonderful work continues to be shared according to the principles in which we both have always believed - awareness and simplification.

Wherever you will need to equalize, Equalization Academy will help you! In all the environment where we experience changement of ambient pressure we need to equalize the middle ears volume/pressure changement. We equalize in scuba diving activities, in freediving, in the hyperbaric chambers and landing with the plane. Equalization Academy main topics: - Organs involved in the equalization Middle ear Eustach ian Tubes Glottis Soft Palate Tongue Abdominal Contraction Reverse Packing Valsalva Frenzel Advanced Frenzel Sequential Frenzel (Mouthfill NON constant pressure) Handsfree (VTO/BTV) Mouthfill (constant pressure) Otovent Protocol Ballon Protocol EQ-Tool Water Pipe - Equalization System - Airshift Techniques - Equalization Techniques - Dry Skills Airshift Techniques only for Freedivers The term shifting indicates the movement of a certain amount of air from the lungs to the oral cavity. Load, instead, refers to the amount of air that is stored in the oral and nasal cavity after air shifting. For example, the air between the tongue and the palate (N load, that will be used in this course for the execution of the Traditional Frenzel maneuver) or in the cheeks (M load, used in advanced courses for the Sequential Frenzel and Mouthfill maneuvers). There are two Airshift techniques: 1. Abdominal Contraction In an Abdominal Contraction, the air is pushed upwards from the lungs. 2. Reverse Packing In Reverse Packing, air is sucked from the lungs. Equalization Techniques There are various equalization techniques, in other words maneuvers that allow to open the Eustachian tube, open communication between the nasal cavity and the middle ear, and balance the latter's pressure and volume. Valsalva (Flight & Chamber - Divers) This equalization technique is based on abdominal contraction which generates reduction of volume and increase of pressure within the lungs. The glottis is open, which means that the same pressure increase will take place into the oral cavity, which is closed through your lips tightened or your tongue in close contact with the palate. The soft palate is open, which means that the same pressure increase will occur in the nasal cavity, which is closed through your nose being pinched. Thanks to the increase of pressure within the nasal cavity, your tubes will open and you will be able to equalize the decrease of volume and pressure of the middle ear, caused by the increase of ambient pressure during the descent. Traditional Frenzel (Flight & Chamber - Divers - Freedivers) This equalization technique requires you to move the air within your oral cavity by pushing your tongue towards the top and the back; this will generate both a volume decrease and pressure increase, with Glottis closed. The soft palate is open, meaning the same pressure increase will take place in the nasal cavity, which is closed through your nose being pinched. Thanks to the increase of pressure within the nasal cavity, your tubes will open and you will be able to equalize the decrease of volume and pressure of the middle ear, caused by the increase of ambient pressure during the descent. Some people might be able to open the tubes, thanks to a mechanical effect: this might allow the tubes to open at a lower pressure. Advanced Frenzel (Freedivers) This equalization technique requires you, at a given depth, to move the air within your oral cavity by saying the letter N and keeping the back of your tongue on a lower position in order to increase the volume of the oral cavity. Having done that, you will be able to generate both a volume decrease and pressure increase, just moving your tongue from T position to Ka and then H, while the Glottis remains closed. The soft palate is open, meaning that the same pressure increase will take place into the nasal cavity, which is closed through your nose being pinched. This technique can be practiced with a series of pressure increases, or with just one light continuous movement that keeps the tubes open and equalization pressure constant. Sequential Frenzel (Freedivers) This equalization technique requires you, at a given depth, to move the air within your oral cavity by saying the letter M; this way you will store up the air in your cheeks in order to maximize the volume of your oral cavity, and you push your tongue towards the top and the back in order to generate both a volume reduction and a pressure increase, with your Glottis closed. The soft palate is open, meaning that the same pressure increase will take place into the nasal cavity, which is closed through your nose being pinched. Hands Free (Flight & Chamber - Divers - Freedivers) This equalization techniques requires you to close your Glottis, after moving the air within the oral cavity, with the soft palate open. The mechanical opening of the tubes will allow you to automatically equalize the decrease of volume and pressure of the middle ear, provoked by the increase of ambient pressure during the descent. The Handsfree technique can be combined with the above-mentioned ones (Advanced Frenzel, Sequential Frenzel and Mouthfill). Mouthfill (Freedivers) This equalization technique requires you, at a given depth, to move the air within your oral cavity by spelling the letter M; meanwhile, you will blow up your cheeks, you will open your lower jaw and you will lower the back of your tongue, in order to maximize the volume of your oral cavity. With the lower jaw closed, the push of your cheeks and you tongue from T position to Ca and then H will allow a volume decrease, also thanks to a light and continuous overpressure till the air within the oral cavity is finished, Glottis closed. The soft palate is open, meaning that the same pressure increase will take place into the nasal cavity, which is closed through your nose being pinched. Thanks to the increase of pressure within the nasal cavity, your tubes will open and you will be able to equalize the decrease of volume and pressure of the middle ear, caused by the increase of ambient pressure during the descent. Some people might be able to open the tubes, thanks to a mechanical effect: this might allow the tubes to open at a lower pressure. . Dry Skills Otovent Protocol The Otovent is a medical device made up of a latex balloon that must be inflated with the nose using the special nasal cannula. The Otovent offers great benefits in learning equalization techniques: it allows to understand, by observing the changes in the balloon, how the tongue, the glottis and the soft palate are moving, or in what position they find themselves. Thanks to the exercises outside of the water, it is possible to learn the motor schemes that are essential to equalize properly. Ballon Protocol The Ballon Protocol has been develop to take awareness of the: Glottis, Soft Palate and Tongue. Thanks to this protocol (8 exercises) the freedivers train the Sequential Frenzel and the Mouthfill. EQ-Tool The Eq-Tool is a digital device designed to improve equalization skills; it measures pressure in the nasal cavity while we perform equalization exercises. The air pressure is measured by a wireless sensor connected to a smartphone, while the collected data can be saved and analyzed using the dedicated App. The Eq-Tool, with the EarOn application, allows to check how any equalization maneuver is performed, from basic techniques to advanced. It also allows to save our training sessions. With the Eq-Tool the freediver can simaluate all the different Equalization Techniques: Frenzel, Advanced Frenzel, Sequenzial Frenzel, Mouthfill. Water Pipe The Water Pipe is a analogical device designed to improve equalization skills; it measures pressure in the nasal cavity while we perform equalization exercises. With the WP the freediver can simaluate all the different Equalization Techniques: Frenzel, Advanced Frenzel, Sequenzial Frenzel, Mouthfill.
